Dergo: Conference situation in need of 'serious conversation'
On Thursday in Gap Shots & Whiffs, we took a look at the changes that are coming for both the Interstate Eight Conference and the Northern Illinois Big 12. This due to the fact that Dwight is leaving the I-8 and Dixon the NIB12 in 2014.
Both conferences currently operate as 12-team conferences that are split into two divisions for most sports. With the aforementioned schools leaving, keeping an 11-team league doesn't seem to be a viable option.
Right now, the wild card would seem to be Streator. From what I'm hearing, the Bulldogs may be the answer to the solution on both sides. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Streator joins the I-8 to replace Dwight, leaving the NIB12 as a 10-team conference.
