Morris library to host program about pearls
The Morris Area Public Library will host a program titled, “A History of Pearls in the Midwest” presented by Elise Kendrot, an instructor in the Fine Arts department atJoliet Junior College.
The program will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013.
Natural American pearls are among the oldest and rarest of universal gems. These pearls are found in many different species of mussels in our American rivers and lakes. The Mississippi River is known to the world for providing some of the rarest of gems.
Elise Kendrot will talk about the history of the pearl as jewelry, as well as the various mussels from local rivers.
There will be a show and tell about the care of pearls as well as how to assess their quality.
This program is free and open to the public.
