'Addicted to Christmas'

“I had kids trick or treating at my house with Christmas lights up,” he said laughing.

Jason may have hung his lights a little earlier than most this year, but most houses don’t turn out the way the Trammel residence does.

“When I was setting all this up, I was testing it and I was doing it kind of late. Sometimes I would stay up to 2 or 3 in the morning,” he said.

Jason’s lights are coordinated to music this year. Each night, he plays a light and music show four times beginning at 5 p.m. 

In one hour, passersby can listen to between 18 and 20 songs, including tunes from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Glee, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, themes from Epcot Center and more.

“I think I’m addicted to Christmas lights and I’m addicted to Christmas,” Jason said.

For the past 20 years, Jason has been hanging Christmas lights just because he loves to. He said they may not have always been on his house, but he hung some every year.

“I am a huge fan of Christmas lights and I have gone to many, many places in the last couple weeks just to look at lights,” Jason said.

He had some help this year, though.

Three of his children – Cade, 9; Alexis 12; and Jesika, 23 – had a hand in the show, as well. Cade and Alexis helped hang lights and Jesika helped with the song selection.

The Trammels' work has not gone unnoticed.

Jason’s wife, Sandra, said people come and sit in their front lawn all nights of the week to watch the show. Some even bring popcorn and other snacks, too, she said.

“How cool is it to look out your front window and see a bunch of kids dancing because of something you created?” Jason said.

Next year, Jason hopes to vamp up his show even more. His goal is to have the music set up through an FM transmitter so families can listen to the show in their vehicles rather than out in the yard through the stereo as it is set up now. Jason and Sandra also thought it would be fun to pass out hot cocoa and have Santa Claus on their front porch, too.
