Edward A. Kussler

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. — Mr. Edward A. Kussler, 88, Lincolnshire, Ill., passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Radford Green Health Care Center in Lincolnshire.

Born Dec. 10, 1924, in Morris, Edward was the son of August and Marie (Rumpf) Kussler. He received his education in Morris and graduated from Morris High School in 1942. He received bachelor's degree in engineering from Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., and earned an MBA from Roosevelt University, Chicago.

Edward married the love of his life, Mary Jo Weimer, on Aug. 9, 1944, in Pueblo, Colo. He then served as a Second Lieutenant in the in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He was part of 767th Bomb Squadron 461st Bomb Group 15th Air Force Mediterranean Theatre. His plane was shot down, was a prisoner of war and missing in action for more than four months.

Upon his return, he rejoined Mary Jo. Together, they made their home in Deerfield, Ill., for 50 years. For the last 17 years, they made their winter home in Sarasota, Fla., where he enjoyed fishing, swimming, walking and watching the dolphins perform in Sarasota Bay.

He also enjoyed playing tennis, reading, sports and the botanical gardens, along with spending time with his friends, family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edward was a member of St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Deerfield and All Angels By The Sea Church in Longboat Key, Fla.

Survivors include his loving family; three children, Valerie (John) Rohrbaugh of St. Louis, Mo.; Bobette (Charlie) Dodson of St. Charles, Ill., and Thomas (Karen) Kussler of Cedarburg, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Kussler, on April 29, 2012; his parents; and three sisters.

Private memorial services at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Deerfield and inurnment with military honors under the direction of the Morris Color Guard at Evergreen Cemetery in Morris will be conducted Jan. 5, 2013.
