Glenn Hollenbeck

Born on June 5, 1923, at home in Verona, he was the son of Lloyd and Florence Hughes Hollenbeck. He received his elementary education in Maxwell School, which was a one-room school in Highland Township. He graduated from Mazon High School with the Class of 1941.

During World War II, he was employed with the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and then was employed at Ft. Sheridan as a payroll clerk in the accounting department for over 15 years. Glenn then moved on to Hines Veterans Administration Hospital in Hines, Ill., where he proudly served until taking early retirement in 1980.

With that move, he then came home to the family farm. But, he needed to be busy and, with that, Glenn found that working with the public took him to Weits Cafe in downtown Morris. There he was a figure for over 10 years and every customer was a friend.

He was a member of the Verona Methodist Church and was a generous donor and supporter of the Grundy County Historical Society, 510 W. Illinois Ave., Morris.
He was a loving uncle to many.

Glenn enjoyed the outdoors, gardens, his many cats, visiting with friends and neighbors, and spending time with his family. He was a “gentle“ man who lived his life as he wanted with grace. We love you! We miss you ! and look forward to one day being reunited with you in heaven.

Surviving are his nephews and nieces, Matt and Penny, Tom and Debora, Brad, Kris, Kim, Jeremy, Nick, Danniell, Jon, Holly, Ashley and Evan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lois Salzman

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris, Ill., where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, with the Rev. Jill Bunker of the Verona Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Ward Cemetery.
