The workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at the Rookery Building, Hoover Forest Preserve, 11285 Fox Road, Yorkville, Ill.
Nature brings a lot of bright, beautiful colors. Participants will have hands on color fun, so dress for a mess.
The workshop is free.

Community members invited to join Chorale
JOLIET, Ill. — The JJC Chorale, Joliet Junior College’s 50-voice community choir, has openings for additional singers for the 2013 spring semester.
Those who join are eligible to travel to New York City with members of the choir May 24-28 to sing in Carnegie Hall under the famed composer John Rutter.
Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, 7 p.m. to 9:40 p.m., beginning Jan. 15. No audition is required, but prior choral experience is helpful.

Fox Country Players presents ‘A Night of Broadway’ Jan. 19
YORKVILLE, Ill. — The audience will enjoy familiar show tunes from favorite Broadway plays at Fox Country Players’ annual benefit concert, “A Night of Broadway,” which will be staged at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Community Christian Church in Yorkville.
Songs will include “Tonight” from West Side Story, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” from Lion King, Consider Yourself from Oliver, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Carousel, and “On My Own” from Les Miserable.
The event will include a silent auction in support of Fox Country Players’ Theatre Arts Academy. The Theatre Arts Academy, which is planned for next July, gives children from grades 1 through 12 the opportunity to enjoy a special theatre experience, not only performing, but also learning stagecraft.
The auction will include a wide variety of donated items, services, and tickets for shows and events.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for bidding on silent auction items, prior to the concert at 7 p.m.

Cooper to begin centennial celebration with Big Band concert
The Morris Area Public Library will hold the first program of a concert series in celebration of its centennial.
Steve Cooper’s “Big Band Memories” will be entertain fans of Big Band and beyond. This program will take place at 6 p.m. Jan. 31, 2013.
Popular Chicago band leader Steve Cooper is your host for a one-hour program of rare films and videotapes of the most popular performers and songs from the days of the Big Bands and early television. In addition to the rare videos, Steve will talk about the famous bands and the celebrities he has performed with including Bob Crosby, Sammy Kaye, Lawrence Welk, Mary Tyler Moore and Liza Minelli He has also performed on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
A question-and-answer session will follow the videos. This program is free and open to the public. Please visit the library or call (815) 942-6880 to register.

Indian Valley Theatre preparing for dinner theater performances
SANDWICH, Ill. — Illinois Valley Theatre is busy preparing for its annual dinner theater in February.
This year they are excited to be presenting Ken Ludwig’s murder-mystery comedy Postmortem. IVT is also excited to announce that Wright Insurance Agency, LLC of Sandwich, Bob and Jeannette Wright, are sponsoring the show. The Wright’s have enjoyed IVT’s presentations for years and couldn’t imagine a better way to support their community. Their donation allows IVT to purchase the rights from the publishing house, Samuel French, thus offsetting the costs that go into putting on the production.
“Postmortem” is a classic example of the whodunit genre. It has all the elements we’ve come to love and expect: devious characters, witty dialogue, brain-teasing plot twisters, glamour, dark secrets, a little bit of romance, a little bit of scandal and a whole lot of suspense. It is based on the somewhat strange life of William Gillette, one of the most popular American actors of the early twentieth century, who pioneered the role of Sherlock Holmes on the stage. The story takes place at the famed Gillette Castle in Connecticut.
