Everyone must chip in to help make Morris litter-free

Published: Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 4:59 a.m. CST

I have a lot of pride in my home town of Morris, Ill.

I have noticed on my walks that there is a lot of litter everywhere. We have a beautiful city and I think picking up the trash would be a big improvement.

A few years ago, Mr. Ed Cunnea and I worked with the kids from Grundy County who had to do community service hours. We did this work every Saturday for the Citizens Police Academy Alumni, which we were members of.

We had them cleaning sidewalks, alleys, and city parking lots. The amount of  trash that we picked up was unbelievable. They did a good job and it was good for them to be out in the fresh air rather than glued to some electronic device.

It would not take much effort if everyone pitched in and made some small contribution to keeping Morris cleaned up. Please don’t litter. There is just no good reason to do so.

I think it is unpatriotic to make a mess of the country we should  be taking pride in. I know we have littering laws somewhere on the books. Maybe the Morris Police could help out by giving a few tickets out for littering. This includes cigarette butts, also.
