Ottawa man’s body recovered from river

OTTAWA, Ill. — Ryan D. Poundstone, 25, of Ottawa, was recovered from the Illinois River and pronounced dead by officials Dec. 31, 2012.

At about 3 a.m. that morning, the Ottawa Police Department received a call from a male subject saying he was going to jump off the Veteran’s bridge.

On arrival, police did not find anyone in the vicinity, but noted a sweatshirt laying on the sidewalk of the bridge, according to a press release from the La Salle County Coroner’s office.

Ottawa River Rescue was called and a short time later Poundstone was recovered from the river.

No foul play is suspected, but the matter is being investigated by Ottawa police and the coroner’s office.
