Area Roundup: Morris swimmers win triangular

The Morris swim team captured a triangular win against Pontiac and Bloomington Central Catholic on Thursday. The Redskins had 164 team points to 88 by Pontiac and 63 by BCC.

Morris recorded 11 firsts on the day in securing the win.

In the 200 meter relay, the team of Jackson Riley, Jimmy Meredith, Anthony Ascolani and Jacob Maclean were first in 2:08.15; in the 200 free, MacLean was first with a time of 2:20.61; in the 200 IM, Riley won with a time of 2:42.28; in the 50 freestyle Jacob Beaudin was first with a time of :26.05; in the 100 butterfly Ascolani was first in 1:10.35; in the 100 freestyle Beaudin was first in :59.28; in the 400 freestyle MacLean won in 5:06.01; the 200 free relay team of Ascolani, Ramirez, MacLean and Beaudin were first in 1:50.09; in the 100 back Riley was first in 1:12.26; in the 100 breast Meredith was first in 1:19.42 and the 400 meter relay team of Riley, Meredith, Ramirez and Beaudin were first in 4:26.08.

"The relays are really coming together and that's good with the big meet we have coming up on Saturday," Morris coach Andrew Porth said.

The Interstate Eight Conference win by the Irish is the 15th of the season.

"That sets a school record for dual wins in a season," coach Todd Yegge said. "Hopefully we can keep breaking that record since we have six more meets this year."

Picking up wins for the Irish included: Kyle Sigmon at 120 (forfeit), Hank Thomas at 132 (forfeit), Bailey Lejawa at 138 (forfeit), Gary Wantroba at 145 (fall 1:12), Lucas Altobella at 152 (fall 1:17), Tommy Lovett at 160 (fall :35); Dayton Coyle at 170 (fall 4:15) and Brandon Webb at 195 (fall 3:42).

The Irish also wrestled and lost to Plano 65-0.

Coal City got wins at every weight except for 220 and heavyweight.

Picking up wins for the Coalers were: Ricky Benitez at 106 (forfeit), Cody Minnick at 113 (forfeit), Corey Jurzak at 120 (forfeit), Jonah Englert at 126 (fall 3:46); Casey Brown at 132 (forfeit); Dylan Pierard at 138 (forfeit); Jake Czaja at 145 (forfeit); Brayden Barker at 152 (forfeit); Michael Czaja at 160 (fall in 1:11), Riley Kazlauric at 170 (forfeit); Allen Potter at 182 (forfeit) and Jake Frost at 195 (forfeit).
