Grundy Workforce Services offers free assistance to job seekers

JOLIET, Ill. — Joliet Junior College’s Grundy Workforce Services offers free assistance to job seekers in the Grundy County area.

An orientation session available, called “Workforce Investment Act (WIA),” will introduce participants to all the job search and training services provided at the Grundy Workforce Services office.Participants will learn about eligibility requirements for free college/training scholarships.  The orientation session is offered from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 14.

Another course, “Computer Skills Assessment,” is offered in partnership with the Grundy County Housing Authority. JJC’s Plus 50 Workforce Development program offers computer courses for individuals 50-plus seeking computer skills for employment. The assessment is offered from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.

“Interviewing Skills” will be offered from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The job interview is the opportunity to market skills to a potential employer, and is key to receiving a job offer. This workshop will help participants prepare for the job interview so they will be confident and ready to make an impression. 

“Transitioning Young Adults (TYA)” is offered from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17.  The course discusses employment and training services that are available to youth between the ages of 18 – 21.
