(MCT) — Police have launched a death investigation after a CTA conductor discovered a mangled body on the Blue Line El tracks in the Loop early this morning.

The body was found about 1:45 a.m. near the platform of the LaSalle station in the 100 block of West Congress Parkway, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

Preliminary reports suggested a person had been struck by a train traveling northbound, according to CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinki.

By 4:10 a.m., Blue Line service had resumed, although trains were not stopping at LaSalle. Full service was expected to be restored by the morning rush period, Hosinki said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the death but did not have additional details.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
