Plano bites Coal City late again

WILMINGTON — Coal City made a higher percentage of its free throws Monday than Plano, but the Coalers went cold — and the Reapers got hot — late.

Misses on the front end of two 1-and-1s inside of the last 2:43 cost the Lady Coalers some golden chances to overtake Plano in what ended up a 45-41 Lady Reapers win in Interstate Eight Conference Tournament semifinal action at Wilmington. Meanwhile, the Lady Reapers, who went 17-for-29 from the line (58 percent) for the game to Coal City's 9-for-15 (60 percent), converted 6-of-8 in the final 3:00.

The loss was the Lady Coalers fourth straight to Plano by four points or fewer in the past two seasons. They need a win Thursday over Peotone to avoid more repeating history, as a loss would leave them fourth in the tournament for a second straight year.
