Morris cheerleaders win NIB12 title

The Morris Varsity Cheerleaders recently competed at the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Cheerleading Competition where they captured first place.

All-conference honors were given to Abbey Dergo, Morgan Hussey and Adilene Serna and All-conference honorable mention honors were awarded to Sydney Christensen and Samantha Ehret.

The Redskins will continue their competitive season on Sunday at Huntley High School where they will perform at 1:15.

The Redskins got one first on the night at the Puddle in Ottawa.

The 160-yard freestyle relay team of Anthony Ascolani, Jordan Ramirez, Jimmy Meredith and Jacob Beaudin were first in 1:17.41.

Seconds were turned in by the 160-relay team of Riley Jackson, Meredith, Ascolani and Jacob MacLean (1:30.56); MacLean in the 200 freestyle (2:05.20); Beaudin in both the 60 free (:29.10) and the 100 free (:52.78); MacLean in the 500 free (5:36.78); Jackson in the 100 back (1:06.88), Meredith in the 100 breast (1:08.42) and the 400 free relay team of Jackson, Ramirez, Meredith and Beaudin (3:52.86).


WRESTLING

Seneca picked up its 17th win of the season by beating the Panthers.

In that win, Sage Friese won by a 13-5 major decision at 132, at 145 Cole Klicker won by forfeit, at 152 Gary Wantroba won 10-4, at 160 Lucas Altobella won by forfeit, at 170 Tommy Lovett won by fall in 4:36 and at 220 Brandon Webb won by fall in 1:44.

"It was a tough dual against Manteno. They finished ahead of us at our tournament, so it was nice to come back and get them," Seneca coach Todd Yegge said.

The Irish got three wins against the Tigers — Wantroba at 145 (17-0 technical fall), Lovett at 160 (7-5) and Dayton Coyle at 170 (fall 4:08).


GIRLS BASKETBALL

Chelsea Schultz had 19 points, Paige Lardi 15 and Brea Fisher 12 in the River Valley Conference win.

Miranda Faletti and Maranda Residori had eight each.

Sandwich 55

WILMINGTON — Alyssa Brownlee had 15 points and Lisa Bruner added 14 for Dwight (6-15) in consolation play Wednesday at the Interstate Eight Conference Tournament.
