Morris dance team wins Fieldcrest Sectional

MINONK — With 86.37 points, Morris finished first in the Class 2A portion of the Fieldcrest Competitive Dance Sectional over the weekend.
Morris advanced to the 2A State Final and will compete Friday at 5:10 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington. With a top-10 finish, the Redskins would compete again Saturday.

GIRLS BOWLING
Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Tournament
DEKALB — Morris finished 1 pin from a championship late Monday, losing to Sycamore 6,336-6,335.
Morris junior Savannah Strange won the individual championship with a 1,261 series. Her game totals were 206, 200, 201, 209, 267 and 177 for a 210 average. Taylor Warwick of Morris placed third with a 1,219 series, which made for a 203 average.
“It was nice to see Taylor and Savannah bowl well,” Morris coach Harry Banks said. “Savannah bowled very consistent all day long. After a couple of fourth-place finishes in the last couple tournaments, it was nice to see her win a tournament.”

Momence 25
COAL CITY — Nineteen points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals from Emily Halliday sparked the Lady Coalers (18-4) late Monday. They also got 12 points from Donjeta Shabani.
Behind 10 points from Makenna Emerson, 9 from Carly Pavlis and 6 from Rebecca Cash, Coal City won 32-8 at the sophomore level.

GRANT PARK — Chelsea Schultz scored 22 points for Gardner-South Wilmington (9-13, 6-4) late Monday in River Valley Conference play. Lexi Posing had 8 points and Miranda Faletti 6.
“We had trouble making any shots today,” GSW coach Adam Leigh said after his team went 24-for-44 from the foul line.

STREATOR — Alyson Wiemken’s 21 points led the Lady Trojans (7-15) late Monday.

Morris 41
SERENA — Julie Jurasits and Leona Burton led the Redskins with 15 points late Monday.
Bridget Gile scored 7 points, Alex Kjellesvik 5 and Emily Burling 4 with 7 rebounds late Monday for Morris in a 30-28 loss at the sophomore level.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Seneca 56,
Spring Valley Hall 25
Chelsie McCormick had 15 points and Danielle Hauch 11 in the non-conference win.
In the sophomore game, Seneca won 39-28 behind 13 points by Karlie Cade, 10 points by Willow Studemann and Kendall Carajohn had eight points.
