Mr. Kenneth E. "Kenny" Hume, 85, of rural Morris, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, Jan. 31, 2013, at Morris Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center with his loving children by his side.

Born May 4, 1927, in Morris, Kenneth was the son of Ray and Ethel (Peart) Hume. He received his elementary education at the Hume School at the coroner  of Illinois 47 and W. Dupont Road. He was a graduate of Morris High School with the class of 1945.

Kenny married the love of his life Maxine J. West on Aug.  9, 1946, in Crown Point, Ind. With his wife, they lived and farmed their entire married lives in Big Grove Township in Kendall County and Wauponsee Township in Grundy County.

For more than 20 years, he drove a school bus for the Newark schools, which included  driving the basketball team. He never missed an away game. He served a term as a deputy with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department.

Kenny was an active outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, tending to his vegetable gardens, attending farm shows, traveling with wife and spending time visiting with his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kenny didn’t know a stranger.

He was a member of First Christian Church, F.O.E. Lodge #1024 and past president of the lodge. He was also a member of the  Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #967, Grundy County Farm Bureau and former 4-H leader in Kendall County.

Survivors include his five loving children, Judith and her husband Andrew Anderson of Leland, Ill., Susan and her husband Dr. Van Hicks, Pamela and her husband James Harper and Linda and her husband Jeffrey Kuhn, all of Morris, and Jeffery Hume and Debra Slatton of Newark, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, William and Tammy Anderson, Michael and Kristin Anderson, Bradley Anderson, Gregory and Mariah Anderson, Jonathon Mavec, Julie (Steve Borgman) Mavec, Richard and Meloney Mavec, Joshua Kuhn, Matthew Kuhn, Stacy and Joe Doyle, Lacey Slaton and Kenneth Hume; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Janice and her husband Gordon Sampson; brother-in-law, Jack Brady of Morris; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Maxine, on Sept. 9, 2008; and one sister, Betty Schoonover.
