Three hurt in Morris accident

Stalled car struck on Illinois 47

Three people were sent to the hospital Monday night after a two-car accident on Illinois 47, near Armstrong Street.

Morris police responded to the accident at 10:16 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4. A woman southbound on Illinois 47 had engine trouble and was stopped in the right-hand lane, Morris Police Chief Brent Dite said.

According to police reports, the car was stalled and the driver was trying to phone for help when her car was struck from behind.

Briann Lyday, 26 of Braidwood, was also heading south on Illinois 47 when she hit the stalled vehicle from behind, Dite said. Lyday said she looked down to check her speedometer right before the accident occurred.

Lyday was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Lyday, the driver of the stalled car and a passenger were all transported to Morris Hospital.
