(MCT) — A man from Romeoville and two women from Chicago died after their Jeep hit a light police and flipped over on the West Side, authorities said.
The red Jeep was traveling east on 31st Street when it hit a curb at Western Avenue, then the pole and landed on its roof around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. Firefighters had to cut the victims from the SUV.
Video from the scene showed the Jeep flipped over, its roof crushed, and a person wrapped in black on a stretcher being taken into an ambulance. The Jeep's radio could be heard faintly from a distance.
The three were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, officials said.
They were identified as Phillip Barnes, 46, of the 1500 block of Ludington Circle in Romeoville; Yvonne Tobias, 57, of the 400 block of South Homan Avenue in Chicago; and Leantwana Rosebur, 40, of the 4900 block of South Gladys Avenue in Chicago.
