Area Roundup: Minooka girls basketball close with win

In the final regular-season game of the season, the Minooka girls basketball team beat Plainfield Central by 33 points. On the grade school scene, the Gardner-South Wilmington boys basketball team earned a bid to State with a come-from-behind sectional win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Minooka 60,

Plainfield Central 27

The Indians got scoring from 10 different girls in the Southwest Prairie Conference victory.

Larissa McLemen had 19 points and Sydney Arlis 8 in the win.

"It's a great game heading into regional play on Monday," Minooka coach Ray Liberatore said.

In the sophomore contest, Minooka won 44-24 behind 16 points by Taylor Prieboy.

SOPHOMORES

Yorkville 50,

Morris 39

The Redskins finish the season 13-12 after the loss.

Emily Burling had 13 points in the game, followed by 8 from Katherine Gallick and 7 by Bridget Gile.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Coal City 50,

Peotone 44

Coal City improved to 5-3 in the Interstate Eight Conference and 14-10 overall with the win.

"We managed to overcome some early foul trouble and come away with a tough road win," Coal City coach Brad Boresi said. "Nick Peters had a huge game and owned the boards all night. Our free-throw shooting was the difference."

Peters had 20 points and 14 rebounds on the night. Jon West had 12 points.

Illinois Lutheran 58,

Gardner-South Wilmington 36

Dalton Wright scored 15 points and Tristan Noonan six points in the River Valley Conference loss.

Dwight 78,

Reed-Custer 57

For Reed-Custer, Dalton Kinzler had 14 points while Travis Schoonover and Logan Zavala added 10 each in the loss.

Reed-Custer won the sophomore game 70-37.

FRESHMEN

Lisle 36,

Morris 28

Jacob Webb had 15 points for Morris while Jacob Jurasits added five.

BOYS BASKETBALL

GSW 53,

St. Mary Pontiac 45, OT

The Tigers were down 30-18 at halftime but came back to tie the sectional championship in regulation and then win it in overtime.

Walker Eutsey had 23 points in the victory while Austin Kavanaugh added 16.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Gardner def. Saratoga

25-21, 25-10

For Saratoga, Katy Smith had four points, four kills and three aces while Bridget Byrne had five points, two aces and a kill.

In the seventh grade match, Saratoga won 25-5, 25-21 behind nine points, five aces, five assists and two kills from Kimber Feiden. Abbey Moore added seven points andfive aces. Ashley Hood and Abby Bruyn had four assists each.

Minooka def. Channahon,

25-22, 27-25

Brooklyn Bachmann and Madalyn O'Dette led Minooka in the hitting department while Hailey Arlis topped in assists. Maria Ruettiger led the winners in the defensive department.
