Morris swimmers won Clifton Crocodile Swim Meet

The Morris swimming team captured the Clifton Crocodile Swim Meet on Friday night, claiming the event with 468 points. Bradley Bourbonnais was second with 465 1/2 points.

"It's a great feeling. We put a lot of kids on the podium. It was nice to see them get the recognition," Morris coach Andrew Porth said. "Overall it was a great team effort."

The Redskins' 200-yard freestyle team of Anthony Ascolani, Jimmy Merideth, Jacob MacLean and Jordan Ramirez won in 1:38.14, though the locals also added five seconds and five thirds.

Riley Jackson was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.45, Joe Perez was second in diving with a score of 147.75 and McLean was second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:37.86 and in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.51.

Kevin Sheridan was third for Morris in diving with a score of 119.55, Ascolani was third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.53, Ramirez was third in the 100 freestyle with a time of :55.84, Merideth was third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.94 and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Alex Magers, Jackson, Justin Lizalek and McLean were third in 3:49.36.


BOYS BASKETBALL
Seneca 47,
Rockford Christian 28

Seneca improved to 22-4 with the win over Christian.

Jimmy David had 12 points, Carter Gallick 11 and Peyton Schrag 10 in the non-conference win on Saturday.

In the sophomore contest, Christian won 46-45 despite Brandon Viken and Ben Rohder having 14 points each.


Coal City 64,
Clifton Central 55

Coal City finished off back-to-back wins on the weekend by beating Central by nine points on Saturday.

"After winning a big game last night, I was anxious to see how we would respond," Coal City coach Brad Boresi said. "We are definitely playing our best basketball right now."

Brennen Shetina had 19 points to lead Coal City — 12 of which came in the first quarter — while Lane Cowherd added 17. Two others also hit double digits in scoring in Nick Peters (11) and Jon West (10). Peters added 10 rebounds.


Seneca 60,
Westmont 43

Seneca improved to 9-1 in the I-8 with the win over the Sentinels.
