In the sophomore game, Seneca lost 50-48 despite 20 points from Viken and 11 points from Rohder.

It was Shetina hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer to ensure the win by the Coalers in Interstate Eight Conference play.

"Big time players come up big when you need them and Brennen was huge," Boresi said. "We managed to battle the entire game and fortunately we were able to come away with a win."

Shetina ended with 20 points and he also added five rebounds. Peters added eight rebounds.

Reed-Custer 51

Dalton Kinzler had 11 points in the Interstate Eight Conference loss by the Comets. He also added nine rebounds.


Dwight 52,
Wilmington 46

A Kiefer Kious steal and layup at the end of the third quarter helped lift Dwight to the win.

Devin Connolly and Blake Huseman hit key free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.


GIRLS BASKETBALL
NIB12 freshman tournament

In DeKalb, Morris finished in third place in the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Tournament after beating Geneseo 34-18. Previously, Morris had lost to Sycamore 42-40.

Devin Pacheco was the leading scorer in both games for Morris. She had 18 points against Sycamore and 14 against Geneseo. Jessica Jurak had nine points against Sycamore and Kayla Cryder had 10 against Geneseo.

25-15, 25-20

Leah Campos had 16 points for the Warriors in the win, including seven aces. She also had four assists.

Kenady Clayburn had six kills.


SIXTH-GRADE
Saratoga Tournament

Mazon-Verona-Kinsman finished fourth at the event held in Morris on Saturday.

Seneca defeated MVK 21-15, 15-21, 15-12 in the opener, MVK defeated Coal City 21-19, 16-25, 15-12, MVK lost to St. Mary of Pontiac 21-19, 21-18, MVK beat Saratoga 21-9, 21-9 with Samantha Macchietto serving 11 straight points in the second game and MVK lost the third place match with Ottawa 20-25, 25-12, 15-11.
