City over-thinking speed limit for Old Stage Road

Published: Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 8:59 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

How much time is the “committee” (as the Morris Herald printed on 1/30/13) going to spend and how much more money is going to be wasted in setting a speed limit on Old Stage Road? The chief of police has stated that there was no problem with it at 35 mph, so it stands to reason that 25 mph would also be safe.

The distance from Fremont Avenue to the end of the speed zone is .95 miles as indicated on my odometer. At 25 mph, it takes 2 minutes 10 seconds to go that distance. At 35 mph it takes 1 minute 45 seconds to go the same. So we are all saving 25 seconds to go through this zone!!!! Is this worth all the time and spending of our money? I think not.

The “committee” is spending $2,500 to do a survey on this problem. What a waste of money. One would think that if the “committee” was serious about the duties of their position, they would have done the same “survey” that I did, and mine was free, no charge.

Come on people, lets do the job you were elected to do.
