Dunn won’t forget White Sox’s collapse in September

“I’m sure everybody’s going to say ‘start over with a clean slate,’ but I don’t want to forget about last year,” said Dunn, who was 7-for-55 (.127) with 25 strikeouts in his final 15 games. “That’s something I want to remember, how it felt basically getting knocked out of first place, because I know I didn’t like it very much and I don’t want it to happen again.

“You work so hard to put yourself in the position we were in and just to let stupid things happen, little stupid injuries here and there, we just didn’t play well at the end.”

Manager Robin Ventura hopes Dunn doesn’t get too consumed by last September’s 2-10 skid that eliminated the Sox from postseason contention.

“Major League Baseball isn’t going to let us go to September and try to start it,” Ventura said. “There’s a long way to go to get back to that point.”

Danks ready for BP: After throwing for 15 minutes Sunday without any problems, left-hander John Danks said he’s ready to throw batting practice Wednesday for the first time since left shoulder surgery in August.

“Let’s get a batter in there,” Danks said. “It will be fun.”

Danks said he’s curious to find out how batters react to his pitches and said he threw more breaking pitches during his bullpen session.

“It’s been a long road,” Danks said. “I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s getting there. Things are moving along nicely, from what I can tell.”

Extra innings: Ventura supported Dunn’s plan to be more aggressive early in counts in an effort to cut down on his 222 strikeouts, even if he reduces his walks.

“And he gets more hits, yes,” Ventura said. “That’s the way I would like to see the equation. You get more hits, especially the way they play him with the shift (to the right side). Go ahead and take the hits to the left side.”
