Vernon E. Gassman

DWIGHT, Ill. — Mr. Vernon E. Gassman, 80, of Dwight, Ill., passed away at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, Ill., at 11:23 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013.

Mr. Gassman was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.

His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the First Baptist Church, Dwight, Ill., with Pastor Daniel Woodward officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight, Ill.

Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Dwight Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #486, to which Mr. Gassman belonged, will conduct military rites at the graveside.

Vernon's family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or an organization of the donor's choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.
