SWGS receives academic excellence award

District 74 meets criteria for state recognition

SOUTH WILMINGTON — South Wilmington Grade School District #74 has received notification from the Illinois State Board of Education that they have earned an Academic Excellence Award.

To earn an Academic Excellence Award, a school must meet the following criteria:

• The school must have made Adequate Yearly Progress in 2011 and 2012 as required by No Child Left Behind.

• And, in schools serving grades 8 and below, 90 percent of students must have met or exceeded state standards in both reading and mathematics for the three most recent school years.

South Wilmington School District serves 98 students in grades K-8.

Superintendent/Principal Cindy Christensen commends the staff, students and families for their hard work and dedication the learning community at South Wilmington.

“The staff at South Wilmington is very flexible and devoted to the students under our charge,” she said. “We are constantly looking for ways to encourage students and motivate them to do their best. We are very proud of the accomplishments that our students have made academically and the support that our community has for our small district.”
