Driver crashes into vehicle in possible suicide attempt

Both drivers avoid life-threatening injuries

A Yorkville man was charged with driving under the influence after he crashed into another vehicle Saturday in Morris, according to the Grundy County Sheriff Kevin Callahan.

Grant Mosey, 24, was traveling east on U.S. 6, near Susan Circle, in his Toyota RAV4 around 7 p.m. on Saturday, when he rear-ended an eastbound Ford Taurus driven by a 47-year-old Morris woman and pushed her vehicle into a utility pole.

At the scene, Mosey admitted to drinking alcohol and taking pills and said that he had intended to kill himself.

“We don’t know for sure right now if that was his intent,” Callahan said.

The woman refused treatment at the scene, but according to family members, her son later took her to Morris Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. She has bruised ribs and a contusion.

Mosey was also taken to Morris Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicles were heavily damaged and were not drivable. The ComEd utility pole was also damaged.

Mosey was charged with DUI and issued a ticket for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. As of Monday evening, he had yet to be booked into the Grundy County Jail.
