Michael Anthony Phillips

COAL CITY, Ill. — Mr. Michael Anthony Phillips, 61, of Coal City, Ill., passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, at the home of his son in Bonfield, Ill.

Born Nov. 2, 1951, in Joliet, Mike was a son of the late Joseph and Irene Carpenter-Phillips. He was raised in Coal City and attended Joliet Catholic High School.

Mike worked as a self-employed concrete contractor and co-owned Vilt-Phillips Construction. He enjoyed bottle collecting, the outdoors, and singing. “Bull of the Woods,” “The Best on the River,” will most be remembered for his love of fishing.

Survivors include his three sons, Mike (Jenn) Phillips of Coal City, Scott Phillips (Lydia Wilson) of Bonfield, and Tony Phillips of Coal City; three grandchildren, Brandon Phillips, Jake Phillips and Hannah Phillips; one brother, Joseph (Margaret) Phillips of Coal City; one sister, Karen (David) Togliatti of Goose Lake; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Phillips of Coal City; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Phillips; and one sister, Janice (Joseph) Bertoglio.

Visitation and video tribute will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois 113), Coal City. Burial will follow at 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Phillips, Todd Togliatti, Greg Phillips, Mark Phillips, Kenny Carpenter and Joe Phillips.
