MINOOKA — A 15-year-old girl was killed Sunday night, April 21, in an accident that involved four Channahon teenagers.

Elizabeth Daniels of Channahon was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center’s emergency room where she was declared deceased at 8:51 p.m., according to the Will County Coroner media line.

Daniels was a Minooka Community High School student, said Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer.

Daniels was a back seat passenger in a vehicle that was struck by another vehicle at U.S. 6 and McLindon Road at 7:56 p.m., Meyer said. The vehicle Daniels was riding in had four teenagers inside.

The car was driven by Patrick O’Connell, 17, of Channahon. O’Connell is a student at Joliet West High School, Meyer said. O’Connell was northbound on McLindon when he allegedly drove through a stop sign and was T-boned by a vehicle heading east on U.S. 6.

O’Connell was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center as well, but he was released, Meyer said.

O’Connell was charged with disobeying a stop sign, failure to reduce speed and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Meyer said there is no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved.

Two other 15-year-old girls were in O’Connell’s car as well.

The one in the back seat with Daniels was taken to Presence Saint Joseph, but she was then airlifted to Loyola Hospital in serious condition, Meyer said. She is also a Minooka Community High School student.

The front seat passenger, also a Joliet West student, was released from Presence Saint Joseph.

The vehicle that hit O’Connell’s car was driven by a 26-year-old Minooka woman who was also taken to the hospital, but Meyer did not know her condition.

The second driver was not issued any citations.
