Rivers Edge offers improv comedy, original ‘MOMologues this month

Published: Friday, May 3, 2013 9:28 a.m. CDT

YORKVILLE – PR Pro-ductions presents its popular “Improv Comedy Night” at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the River’s Edge Theatre in Yorkville.

Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online at www.riversedgetheatre.com or at the door prior to the performance. A cash bar is available in the lobby, and will be open before and during the show.

The production is appropriate for all ages, and will feature local actors and actresses in a completely improvised setting. Suggestions are taken from the audience to create a 90-minute production, guaranteed to make you laugh.

Unlike other improv shows, PR Productions performs the entire show without a script, without any formal structure, and without any idea of what the audience may suggest. There is even improvised music and lighting design.

The group will be premiering over a dozen new games at this month’s show.

“We don’t want the audience to see the same games time and time again,” said Danielle Pagoria, Improv Team Leader. “We try to add at least 2 or 3 new games every month, but this month is going to be huge. We’ve been working on a ton of new material and can’t wait to see what the audience suggests!”

The group performs the popular “Improv Comedy Night” on the first Saturday of every month at the River’s Edge Theatre.

‘MOMologues’

“The MOMologues: An Original Comedy about Motherhood” comes to the River’s Edge Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 10 and 11.

This set of recollections and reflections on motherhood set to comic timing is the perfect way to say “thank you” to moms everywhere.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and can be purchased at www.riversedgetheatre.com or at the door.  A cash bar is available during performances.

The production stars Mel-issa Gonzales of Yorkville, Jodi Wulff of Millbrook, Christine Roe of Plano and Suzannah Walter  of Sandwich.

“I have laughed hysterically at this script since the first time I read it,” said Gonzales, a mother of two. “It is so unbelievably true and features so many hilarious moments.”

The 90-minute play follows four separate characters, all moms, who tell their individual stories through short monologues or scenes with other characters.

“There’s even a scene about how mom’s ‘pick up’ other moms at the playground,” said Walter. “I still laugh because, as I read the script, I realized that I did that.”

Other motherhood moments caught within the comedy of the show include infertility, the joys and pains of breastfeeding, escapades with crabby kids in the grocery store, and the tradition of capturing photos of your baby as they climb aboard the bus on the first day of school.

“Moms will love it,” said Roe. “The joy of this show is that, even if you’re not a mom, you will laugh hysterically at these portrayals.
