Vogrin tosses one-hitter at Romeoville

In area action on Tuesday, the Minooka baseball team won behind a 1-hitter from pitcher Mitch Vogrin. In softball, Seneca beat Sandwich to close within one win of clinching the Interstate Eight Conference West title.

BASEBALL

Minooka 5,

Romeoville 0

Mitch Vogrin was the winning pitcher for the Indians, recording the complete-game shutout. He fanned 12 in seven innings and allowed just one hit and no walks. His perfect game was broken up with two outs in the seventh.

At the plate, Neal Tyrell hit two home runs and a single and both Tyler Desmarais had three singles and Joe Carnagio two singles.

In the sophomore game, Minooka won 10-0 in five innings behind the pitching of Cole Thompson and Greg Morin.

At the plate, Kenny Walsh and Gavin Pfeiffer had three singles each and Andrew Spreitzer and Jake Null had two hits each.

In the freshman game, Minooka won 10-0 behind the pitching of Nick Petrak. In six innings he fanned seven and allowed just one hit.

At the plate, Nick Clemmons had a double and a single, Matt Brozovich had a triple and a single, Jacob Doster had a double and a single and Jack Sasso also singled.

Sandwich 7,

Seneca 2

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Irish fanned 17 times and faded in an Interstate Eight Conference loss to the Indians.

In the first inning, Logan Pifer singled and Trent Nugent reached on a throwing error by the Sandich pitcher. With runners on second and third, a wild pitch scored Pifer and Nugent came in on a sacrifice fly to right by Brian Bergeson. Ryan Schuetz also doubled in the game.

Josh Rohder was the losing pitcher. He went three innings allowing seven runs on nine hits and three walks. Brandon Pasdertz went three innings in relief.

Newark 15,

Serena 14

In a Little Ten Conference slugfest, the Norse got the victory.

Matt Eike was 3-for-5 for Newark with two runs scored at the plate while Dominic DiClementi had a double, run scored and an RBI. Also, Justin Ayers had an RBI single and Tyler Mulligan was 2-for-2 with a single, double and a two-RBI game-winning hit.

Kevin Klock was the winning pitcher.

SOPHOMORES

Kaneland 10,

Morris 3

Chase Hansen was 1-for-1 while also being walked and hit by a pitched ball for Morris. Cody Niewinski also doubled and had an RBI. Additionally, Gave Sajnaj had a single and an RBI.

SOFTBALL

Seneca 11,

Sandwich 6

Nicole Pihl was 2-for-3 with a home runs, three runs scored and two RBI in the Interstate Eight Conference win. She was also the winning pitcher, going five innings before being replaced by Kayla Haines.

Sarah Radtke was 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBI. lexi Trompeter also hit a home run in the contest.

Coal City 12,

Plano 3

Emily Aichele was the winning pitcher for the Coalers and gabby Bonic, Madison Giordano and Makenna Emerson each went 3-for-4 at the plate.

FROSH-SOPH

Kaneland 4

Laurel Harper was the winning pitcher for the Redskins. She went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits while walking one and striking out three. harper also had two hits and an RBI in the game.

Madison Colasanti was also 2-for-3 with a run scored.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Minooka def. Plainfield East,

25-10, 25-14

Phil Hannon dished out 20 assists and two kills while Maalik Walker had six kills and four blocks in the Southwest Prairie Conference win. Also for the Indians, Matt Svetlecich had three kills, two blocks and two aces, Mitch perinar had five kills, four blocks and one dig, Adam Holstine four digs and three aces and David Hynek three digs and four aces.
