Grand jury indicts seven on Wednesday

Four charged in drug-related cases

On Wednesday, May 14, the Grundy County Circuit Court grand jury returned indictments against seven individuals.

Grundy County State’s Attorney Jason Helland reminds the public that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. 

JOHN PATTON, 42, of Angel Fire, N.M., was indicted for unlawful cannabis trafficking, in that he knowingly brought more than 2,500 grams of cannabis into Illinois for the purpose of delivering the cannabis, a Class X felony.

Second, Patton was indicted for unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, a Class X felony.

Third, Patton was indicted for unlawful possession of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, a class 1 felony.

DUSTIN BRANDT, 30, of Morris, was indicted for possession of cocaine, a Class 4 felony.

MICHAEL HOUSER, 23, of Braidwood, was indicted for possession of methylphenidate, a Class 4 felony.

JASON LORENTZ, 35, of Streator, was indicted for possession of methadone, a class 4 felony.

GRETTA SCALPELLI, 48, of Joliet, was indicted for retail theft of less than $300 of merchandise with a previous theft conviction, a Class 4 felony.

SEAN SMITH, 28, of Morris, was indicted for three counts of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, all Class 4 felonies.  In addition, Smith was charged with DUI, reckless driving, and resisting a police officer, all Class A misdemeanors.

JOSEPH VAN CLEAVE, 20, of Morris, was indicted for residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.  Van Cleave was also indicted for five counts of forgery, all Class 3 felonies.  In addition, Van Cleave was indicted for possession of heroin, a Class 4 felony.
