The Southwest Prairie Conference announced its 2013 spring soccer team in recent days. Plainfield North dominated the team with six picks and, considering the Tigers went 7-0 in league play, that’s not surprising.

Locally, Minooka went 4-3 in conference action and got three picks. Those picks included senior forward Jillian Hetfleisch, junior midfielder Marisol Galvan and senior defender Deaven Hudson.

For North, senior Ashley Handwork was named the MVP of the SPC. She was joined on the team by senior midfielder Kaela Leskovar, senior defender Nikki Auble, junior midfielder Shayna Dheel, junior midfielder Heather Handwork and sophomore defender Brooke Polonus.

Plainfield North won the Oswego Regional this year after beating Aurora East 8-0 and hosting Oswego 3-0 in the championship. North then lost at the Bolingbrook Sectional 4-0 to Waubonsie Valley.

Oswego was second in the conference standings with a 6-1 record. The Panthers had four players named to the SPC team. Those included: senior defender Kendall Craig, junior keeper Amy Annala, sophomore forward Kelsey Kraft and senior midfielder Nikki Anderson.

Plainfield South was third in the conference, tied with Minooka in the standings. South had senior midfielder Abby Banks, junior midfielder Kelsey Pruitt and senior forward Alex Truhlar.

Plainfield Central was 3-4 in league play and had two named to the team. That included sophomore forward Paige Fuller and sophomore defender Maddie Conroy.

Oswego East (2-5) had senior forward Anida Phetchampheng and senior defender Brenna Risch; Plainfield East (2-5) had one pick in senior Cindy Pineda and Romeoville (0-7) also had junior midfielder Amara Markovic named.

Minooka won the Joliet Central Regional this spring, defeating Joliet West 3-0 and Lincoln-Way Central by a 3-2 count.

At the Collinsville Sectional against Normal Community, the Indians season came to an end with a 3-0 loss.

Minooka finished 13-7, Plainfield North was 21-4, Oswego 12-7-1 and Plainfield South 9-8-2.

The SPC team sportsmanship award went to Plainfield North.
