To the Editor:
In a “Good Morning Amer-ica” interview with George Stephanopolis recently, Presi-dent Obama declared, “We don’t have an immediate crisis in terms of debt. In fact, for the next 10 years, it’s gonna be in a sustainable place.”
That reminded me of an old joke.
In spite of the folks who had tried to stop him, a man jumped off a 100-story building. As he passed the 50th floor, a person yelled out the window, asking how he was doing, “Fine,” he yelled back, “Everything’s OK so far...”
As our country continues its spiraling descent into debt, Obama reassures us that everything is OK... so far.
In fact, if we stick our heads out the window, we can almost hear him shouting his group-tested slogans.
Things like, “Just have the rich pay a little more!” or “What we really need is a balance approached with commonsense solutions!”
At this rate, Mr. President, we won’t ever hit the ground running. We’ll just hit the ground and go “Splatt!”
But until then, of course, there’s no need to worry. After all, as you say, everything’s OK.... so far!
