GSW has five named first team All-RVC

The River Valley announced its All-Conference baseball and softball teams recently, with Sam Geraci of Illinois Lutheran named baseball Player of the Year and Savannah Soppett of Beecher named softball Player of the Year. This is the second year in a row that Soppett was given the honor.

Beecher won the softball conference title with a 12-0 record and Illinois Lutheran won the baseball title with a league record of 8-2.

Locally, Mike Goodwin and Kaidon Hibler of Gardner-South Wilmington were named to the first team for baseball and Abbie Horrie, Rebecca Bernardy and Emily Foley garnered first-team honors for the GSW softball squad. It is the second year in a row that Goodwin has gotten the honor and the same it true of Horrie. Foley was honorable mention in 2012.

Other first team selections for the first-team RVC baseball team included Zach Aring and Michael Takacs of Beecher; Jake Perreira and Tyler Fritz of Grant Park; Grant Farmer and Jake Kendrick of Illinois Lutheran; Jason Cowsert of St. Anne and Jordan Tharp of Tri-Point.

Rounding out the first-team RVC softball team were Sarah Crews, Katie Howard and Isabella Woodslayer of Beecher; Jessica Rayburn and Rachel Conrad of Donovan; Jessica Zemaitis and Erin McMahan of Grant Park and Kenzie Krause of Tri-Point.

Cody Harvey and Chris Lardi were honorable mention for GSW’s baseball team this year and Maranda Residori and Sophie Barna were honorable mention for the girls.

Others making honorable mention for baseball were Devin Mahnke and Chase Wyatt of Beecher; Jared Buzan, Eric Dorn and Dylan Gould of Illinois Lutheran; Austin Schoth of St. Anne; Zach Taylor of Tri-Point and Chatham Laschober and Ryder Kardosh of Grant Park.

Others named honorable mention for softball were Emily Landis and Savannah Stulka of Beecher; Jackie Daniels and Dakota Regnier of Donovan; Melissa Crivokapich and Rachel McLaughlin of Grant Park; Janelle Heyn of Illinois Lutheran; Morgan Holmes, Brooke DeWitt, Hannah Lease and Breanna Cowsert of St. Anne and Dayna Mortiz and Emily Jehle of Tri-Point.
