Ida Mae Grant

GARDNER — Mrs. Ida Mae Grant, 76, of Gardner, Ill., passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet, Ill.

Born Feb. 2, 1937 in Morris, Ida Mae was the daughter of the late Peter and Vera (Porter) Hansen. She was educated in Gardner, having graduated from Gardner-South Wilmington High School.

Ida married Bernard Grant in Gardner on Aug. 4, 1956. Ida, and her husband, Bernard were in partnership with Rodney and Bev Grant for more than 30 years co-owning the Gardner Furniture Mart and Grant Brothers in Gardner.

She was a long-time member of the Church of Hope and its choir in Gardner. She was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include her husband, Benny Grant of Gardner; daughter, Jennifer (Jake) Olson of Gardner; grandchildren, Jacob (Katie) Olson and Jared (Holly) Olson; great-granddaughter, “precious little britches," Leah Sue Olson; sisters, Marilyn Kociss of Gardner and Ina Tjelle of Lincoln, Ill.; sister-in-law, Lorraine Hansen of Gardner; brothers-in-law, Louis Jr. (Margarett) Grant of Southside, Tenn., Rodney (Bev) Grant of Gardner, and Marlin Raddatz of New Lenox, Ill.; sister-in-law, Gladys Baggett of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff Grant; brothers, Russell (Ginny) Hansen, Gaylord Hansen, Bobby Hansen, Kenneth Hansen, and Wayne (Cathy) Hansen; brother-in-law, John Kociss; and sisters-in-law, Sarah Arms, Margaret (John Wade) Smith, Dorothy (Robert Lee) Kennedy, and Rebecca Raddatz.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Church of Hope in Gardner.  Rev. Jan Chandler will officiate.

Interment will be at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, Ill.

Visitation will also be at the Church of Hope from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 20.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Church of Hope or Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, 250 Waterstone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
