MINOOKA, Ill. — Mrs. Marianne J. "Mitzi" (McCarthy) Haley, 67, died suddenly Friday, June 21, 2013, at home.
Born in Joliet, Ill., and residing in Minooka, Ill., the past 16 years, Mrs. Haley was a retired pastoral associate with St. Mary Catholic Church in Minooka. She was also actively involved at the family farm.
An avid volunteer with Minooka Elementary School, the Minooka library and St. Mary Catholic Church, Mitzi was very proud of her Irish heritage, she enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, animals, and, most of all, her grandchildren.
Surviving are her loving husband of 46 years, Mike Haley, of Minooka; her daughters Janice (Tony) Columbus of Joliet and Julie (Matt) Dzarnowski of Shorewood, Ill.; her beloved grandchildren, Matt and Nina Columbus, and Haley and Hannah Dzarnowski; her mother, Ruth (Phillips) Culyat of Joliet; sisters Gerry Sossong and Lee (Gary) Wills, both of Channahon, Ill.; a stepsister, Christine (Rick) Emerick; a stepbrother, David Culyat; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as faithful companions Maggie, Dolly and Buck.
Mrs. Haley was preceded in death by her father, Thomas McCarthy; a sister, Kathleen Malloy; and her stepfather, Tony Culyat.
Funeral Services for Mitzi will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, at Essington Road, Joliet, to St. Mary Catholic Church, Minooka, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Minooka.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital or St. Joseph's Indian School of Chamberlain, S.D., would be appreciated.
