MAA to install scoreboards at West Side Park

City will bear none of the expense

The Morris Athletic Association is planning on purchasing two scoreboards for West Side Park.

MAA board member Bryce Davis spoke to the city of Morris’ Parks and Annexation Committee Friday about purchasing the boards for both the softball and baseball fields.

“We have the money secured for that, so we will buy them,” said Davis.

He said if the city will allow the MAA to move forward, they have parent volunteers who are professionals in the work needed who are willing to donate the time and labor to install the scoreboards.

“We would like your blessing. Nothing is required from you guys. We will maintain them,” said Davis.

The MAA did want the city’s thoughts on where to locate the signs. Mayor Richard Kopczick suggested they consult with an electrician and consider where is best for the signs to be seen by spectators.

Once the MAA is advised by an electrician, the committee asked them to return to the city with more information.

The city’s ball fields are owned by the city, but the MAA handles the scheduling. The city maintains the fields, but the MAA prepares the fields for games. The MAA is paid by the leagues and teams to utilize the field for games.

The city also supports the MAA with an annual donation, which usually ranges at about $5,000 a year.
