Grundy to host tire recycling on July 13

Published: Wednesday, July 3, 2013 9:48 a.m. CDT

The Environmental and Resource Conservation Office (ERCO) of the Grundy Count Land Use Department will host a tire recycling event at the Environtech Landfill, 1800 Ashley Road, Morris.

The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon, or until the trailer for the tires fills up, on Saturday, July 13.

ERCO is asking would-be recyclers to provide photo identification that clearly shows they are residents of Grundy County. Each household is allowed four tires from a passenger or truck vehicle. Tires need to be taken off of the rims.

Treadstone Tire Recy-cling of Joliet will be processing the tires for green use. There are four different options for the tires that are collected

• Crumb rubber – used for welcome mats, railroad ties, and rubberized asphalt

• Industrial feedstock —automotive parts, paints and coatings as a powder

• Rubber mulch – no fading, washing away, reduces mold, insects and rodent infestation. Come in a variety of colors and doesn’t decompose

• Tire derived fuel – alternative to coal, oil, natural gas for cement kilns, pulp/paper mills, and power plants.
