Mr. Daniel Lee Anderson, 62, of Morris, Ill., after a courageous battle with cancer, passed away in his home, with his loving family by his side, Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.

Born July 10, 1951, in Aurora, Ill., the son of Betty (Morris) Anderson and the late Lauren Anderson, he was raised and educated in Newark, Ill., graduating with the Class of 1969. Dan went on to attend college in Milwaukee, Wis.

Dan was a member of Teamsters Local 179, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Grundy County Rod and Gun Club, where he served on the board and was a friend to everyone.

Dan enjoyed traveling and camping in his motorhome with his wife, Janell. He enjoyed cooking, especially on his smoker. Dan loved to listen to all types of music and, after racing go carts in the late ’70s, he enjoyed any kind of racing. Most of all, he cherished the time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Dan was a stranger to no one and a friend to all, usually having a story or a joke to share.

Surviving is his best friend and wife, Janell (Waters); his mother Betty (Morris) Anderson; four children, Julie (Chad) Brandt, Ryan (Brittany) Anderson, Jan Close (Rick Carlson) and Rick (Christy) Close, all of Morris; six grandchildren he so dearly loved, Brett Anderson, Brody Brandt, Calen Close, Sydney Brandt, Alaina Close and Presley Anderson; one sister, Deb (John) McKinney of Aurora, Ill.; and three brothers, the Rev. Paul (Gwen) of Spokane, Wash., Phil (Valerie) of Newark, Ill., and Mark (Annie) of Olympia, Wash. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Proceeding him in death were his father, Lauren Anderson; and one brother, Steve Anderson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the U. C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris.

A Celebration of Dan’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug.7, at the funeral home. Officiating will be his brother, the Rev. Paul Anderson. Cremation rites will be accorded, with burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be made in Dan’s name to an organization of the donor’s choice.
