HTFH’s House Walk switches to Saturday

21st annual event to feature four homes Nov. 30

Published: Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 4:12 p.m. CST

Four classic homes brimming with charm and character will be featured on the 21st Annual Home for the Holiday House Walk on Saturday, Nov. 30. The walk will be featured on Saturday for the first time in the festival’s history with a goal of attracting even more visitors to the event.

“Over the years, we’ve come to understand that many people still have to work on the day after Thanksgiving,” said Diane Sprole, co-chairman of the house walk committee.  “When we considered this and the Black Friday promotions, which draw many folks out of town, the committee felt moving the house walk to Saturday was an excellent alternative.”

Along with the transition of the day for the house walk, the committee will also usher in a new effort to promote a common theme among the homes displayed. The 2013 theme will feature classic homes in Morris, rich in history and timely architecture.

“We’re excited to showcase these beautiful homes that have such a long history in the community.” said committee co-chair Penny Olson-Langland. “Each of the homes has its own unique appeal and reflects the personality of its owners. I’m sure visitors will be delighted to see this slate of houses.”

Those who have graciously offered to open their homes to the community this year include:

• Gary & Barb Behrens, 619 Vine Street

• Art Bouchard & Dawn Micale, 216 West North Street

• Harold & Rachel Martin, 724 Fremont Avenue

• Dr. Tim & Karen Ortiz, 321 West North Street

All four homes are in close proximity to downtown Morris, putting those in attendance just blocks away from a great selection of restaurants and shops where they can continue their holiday shopping and take in the music and beautiful decorations of the season.

Visitors to the house walk will also have the opportunity to enjoy a tea reception featuring homemade cookies and pastries.  The women’s group at Immaculate Conception Church will serve as hosts for this year’s event.
