Opal Lorene Moore

COAL CITY, Ill. — Mrs. Opal Lorene (Thompson) Moore, 87, of Coal City, Ill., passed away Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at her home.

Born May 28, 1926, in Buena Vista, Tenn., to the late Ernest and Opal (Taylor) Thompson, she retired in 1992 from Caterpillar in Joliet, Ill. A member of the Church of Christ in Wilmington, Ill., she loved sewing, quilting, and watching “Walker, Texas Ranger.” She also enjoyed traveling to Tennessee to visit her family.

Surviving are seven daughters, Margaret (Tom) Griffin of North Carolina, Joyce (George) Peterson of Oklahoma, Gerry (Wayne) Biros of Braidwood, Ill., Christine Girot of Georgia, Belinda (Norman) Lutes of Coal City, Bobbie (Brian) Nugent of Texas, and Jill (Sam Hutton) Moore of Morris, Ill.; one son, Larry (Wendy) Moore of Wilmington; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond E. Thompson of Tenn. and Ernest F. Thompson Jr. of Missouri; one sister, Alice Faye Rigsby of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were one son, Terry Moore; two grandsons, Chad Caise and Shawn Moore; one brother, Robert L. Thompson; and one sister, Mary L. Thompson.

The family wished to extend a special thank you to Opal’s caregivers, Cindy Miller and Donna Asbridge, both of Coal City.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial services will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes Ltd. & Crematory, Braidwood Chapel, 401 E. Main St., Braidwood, at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19. Visitation will be for two hours preceding services. Inurnment will be held at a later date in McAuley Cemetery in Huntingdon, Tenn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name to the Church of Christ in Wilmington would be appreciated.
