LISBON – Grand marshals for the 178th Lisbon Labor Day celebration Sept. 2 are John and Carla O’Brien.
Carla O’Brien was born in Morris and attended Morris High School and Joliet Junior College. John O’Brien was born in Morris and attended Lisbon Grade School and Newark High School. He is a fourth-generation Lisbonite.
They married in 1993 and have one daughter, Megan, who is married to Abel Valdivia and lives in Morris; they also have a grandson and a great-grandchild on the way.
John O’Brien took over his father’s trucking company and ran it for 20 years. He is currently driving for TKT Construction. For several years, he was a trustee for the village of Lisbon and she was the treasurer.
Carla O’Brien worked at Walnut Grove Healthcare Center for 12 years in activities and social service.
John and Carla O’Brien love everything about Lisbon, “the small-town atmosphere, people are so friendly, and great neighbors that would help us out in a heartbeat if we needed them, and it is a peaceful community.”
Scheduled events for the Labor Day celebration begin at 8 a.m. with coffee and rolls at Village Hall. There will be a 50/50 raffle and silent auction, hosted by the park committee.
The parade line up is at the grade school parking lot at 8:30 a.m., with judging at 9 a.m. and parade beginning at 10 a.m.
