Morris Theatre Guild will hold open auditions for its fall production of David Auburn’s drama, “Proof.”

Auditions will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 4 and 5 at the Morris Theatre Guild, 516 W. Illinois Ave. (Canalport Community Center), which is at the west end of Illinois Avenue in Morris.

Auditions will take the form of cold readings, therefore, no special preparations are necessary. Auditioners need not be a member of the Morris Theatre Guild.

Two adult males and two adult females are needed for this production. All roles are to be played by those 25 years of age or older.

The plot of “Proof” follows Catherine, a troubled young woman, who has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Now, following his death, she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire; and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind.

Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of all: How much of her father’s madness – or genius – will she inherit?

“Proof” opens Nov. 8 at the Morris Theatre Guild. Additional performances will be Nov. 9-10, 15-16 and 17.  All Friday and Saturday  performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. and both Sunday matinees will begin at 2:30 p.m.

“Proof” is presented with permission from Dramatists Play Service Inc., to whom royalties are paid.
