Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers has set its schedule of childbirth and family classes for September.
A “New Siblings” class will be offered at 4 p.m. Sept. 1. This fun class is for children ages 3 to 7 who are preparing to welcome a new brother or sister.
Siblings-to-be will learn how a newborn baby looks and acts and what happens while mom and baby are in the hospital. Activities, discussion and a tour of the birthing suites help children feel a part of the experience.
Each child should bring a doll or stuffed animal. The cost is $10 per child.
A “Super Saturday Childbirth” class is offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 7. This is a one-day class covering labor, comfort measures, relaxation and medical interventions, pain management options and vaginal and cesarean birth. The delivery process and postpartum care will be explained in one of the Family Birthing Suites, and a tour will be provided of the entire obstetrical unit.
This class, along with a breast-feeding class, gives expecting couples all of the information needed for a great labor experience.
Lunch will be provided. Cost is $60.
“Introduction to Breastfeeding” will be offered from 10 to 11 a.m. Sept. 9 in the Family Birthing Suites Classroom at Morris Hospital.
Taught by an obstetrical nurse/certified lactation consultant, the class focuses on the benefits of breastfeeding, pumping techniques, and tips for returning to work. Breastfeeding moms will also get advice to help solve problems related to breastfeeding.
Nursing mothers are welcome to bring their infants. The class is free.
A free tour of the Family Birthing Suites will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11. The tour is especially recommended for mothers and fathers-to-be, grandparents, and anyone thinking about having a baby.
During the tour, guests will have an opportunity to see the beautiful unit where moms experience labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum care. Each private birthing suite is equipped with soft lighting, modern furniture, beautiful woodwork, large windows, and all the medical equipment that’s needed to care for mom and baby during delivery. The tour will also feature Morris Hospital’s nursery and an explanation of what it means to be a Level II perinatal care provider.
Guests will also have an opportunity to ask questions about anesthesia, nursing care, breastfeeding support and prenatal education services.
