Gus Macker's return to community tops $100,000
Tournament volunteer groups recognized Aug. 20
Gus Macker-Morris volunteers gathered Tuesday to be recognized for their support of the Gus Macker three-on-three basketball tournament.
During the recognition, they were presented with checks to thank them for their part in making this year’s tournament a success.
Over the past 11 years, the Morris Downtown Development Partnership has given more than $100,000 back to community organizations who have assisted with the tournament. The 2013 volunteer groups included Patriots 4 Heroes, Morris Community High School PromFest, First United Methodist Church Sr. Youth Group, I.C.S. Sports Committee, Christian Youth Center of Morris, Morris Police (who donate to Illinois Special Olympics), Grundy Bank Caring Committee, Special Connections of Grundy County, and the Walker Epilepsy Foundation.
In addition, Morris Community High School football assisted by building hoops and volunteers from Park Street Church in Mazon distributed water to officials and scorekeepers during the tournament.
Grundy County Republicans assisted with water distribution on Sunday morning, and former state Rep. Pam Roth donated water for the tournament.
