We Care receives a monthly delivery of food for its pantry from the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
The NIFB is able to provide food to pantries at prices that are unattainable in grocery stores.
Some examples of what they sent were 14-ounce packages of hot dogs for 9 cents each, 16-ounce boxes of cornbread mix for 9 cents each, and 27-ounce boxes of cereal for 43 cents each.
In addition to the food We Care purchases with the donations, the food pantry also receives food that is provided for free as part of the Emergency Food Program.
The EFP provided mashed potatoes, peanut butter, whole chickens, seasoned pork patties, beef stew, turkeys and lamb shoulder chops.
During the month since the previous Fill the Pantry, We Care had helped feed 277 families from its food pantry.
