MORRIS, Ill. – Mrs. Arlene E. Johnson, 97, of Morris, Ill., passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 5, 2013, at Morris Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Arlene was born Dec. 3, 1915, in Nettle Creek Township, Grundy County, Ill., to Arthur and Lillie (Tuntland) Danielson. She married Gerald Johnson on Sept. 26, 1939, in Stavanger Lutheran Church.

They farmed until 1957, when they moved into Morris. Arlene worked at the Morris Paper Mill for 11 years, until the Mill moved out East. She volunteered at Morris Hospital for over 30 years and also worked as an election judge for several years, until she was 89.

Arlene was also a very active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church for many years.

Survivors include her two children, Gwen (Lee) Cure of Olathe, Kan. and Robert Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; one son, Kenneth; and her siblings, Jester Danielson, Palma Punke and Mildred Hausken.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris, with Pastor Patrick Lohse officiating. Interment will follow at Stavanger Cemetery. The visitation will also be on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Travis Bever, Lee Cure, Michael Wheeler, Brian Peterson, Arthur Hornsby and Dale Stout. Arlene’s nephew, Doug Cotter, will act as honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Morris Transportation Department.
