Crash injuries prove fatal to Eliakis

Morris man, 87, struck tree early Thursday

Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan and the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death of a Morris man involved in a motor vehicle crash early Thursday morning.

Preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle driven by Louie Eliakis, 87, of Morris was traveling on Cemetery Road when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree.

Eliakis was transported to Morris Hospital, where he died shortly before 6 a.m. in the emergency room.

No further details are available at this time and the crash remains under investigation by the coroner’s office and the sheriff’s office.
