Louie A. Eliakis

Louie A. "The Greek" Eliakis, 87, passed away suddenly Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, as the result of a single-car accident.

Born in McKees Rocks, Pa., he was a resident of Morris, Ill., since 1957. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Louie was the former owner and operator of the Eliakis Produce Stand, where you could find him providing the freshest produce to his community for over 40 years, until his retirement in 2003.

Formerly employed at Northern Petrochemical, Alumax, and Equistar, Mr. Eliakis was an active member of the Morris Lions Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Club #1024, and American Legion Post #294. He was a life member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, and a member of the Ebbey George's Lunch Club.

He was preceded in death by his son, Anthony Eliakis (2012); his parents; and one brother, Steve (Poleen) Eliakis.

Surviving are his loving wife, Georgia Eliakis; one son, Theodore (Marcy) Eliakis; three grandchildren, Kyle, Nikole, and Kristopher; and a daughter-in-law, Sylvia E. Eliakis, all of Morris; his sister, Amanda (late Louis) Georgantas of Joliet, Ill.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services for Louie A. Eliakis will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 West U.S. 6, at Deerpath Drive, Morris, to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Joliet, for services at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Morri,s where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the Morris Color Guard.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, with Trisagion Services at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Morris Lions Club in his name would be appreciated.
