Morris Mobile Meals receives grant
Purchases new insulated carriers
Morris Mobile Meals was able to purchase six new insulated meal carriers this year through a grant received from the Community Foundation of Grundy County.
Mobile Meals learned about the grant application process from Devan Gagliardo, program director of the Community Foundation, at a Grundy County Interagency Council meeting earlier this year.
The carriers are used every day, including weekends, to deliver healthy meals to those unable to prepare them for themselves.
Mobile Meals works through the dietitians and staff at Morris Hospital to provide meals specific to each individual, including many with dietary restrictions from physicians orders.
The older bags had been in use since 2009 and had started to develop holes, which would have compromised the effectiveness of insulation used to keep meals hot or cold.
Replacement costs were beyond the means of the nonprofit organization.
“I and the organization’s board of directors wish to thank the Community Foundation of Grundy County and its many benefactors for opening a door to make this need a reality,” Morris Mobile Meals coordinator Char Orndorff said.
