The Morris Hospital Auxiliary raised more than $100,000 toward the Morris Hospital Flood Recovery and Prevention Fund at the 45th annual Morris Hospital Auxiliary Ball on July 27. The very first Morris Hospital Auxiliary Ball was July 27, 1968.
The evening kicked off with a silent auction and raffle drawings, followed by a video presentation depicting the damage caused by the April flood and plans for preventing future flooding.
“The [flood] pictures really take us back three months in time,” Morris Hospital President & CEO Mark Steadham said to the guests. “It’s a time that will always be remembered for heartache as we evacuated our patients, for teamwork as we restored our operations and for perseverance, as we continue today to devise a plan to protect our hospital so we never experience a crisis like this again.”
The presentation clearly touched the hearts of those in attendance, resulting in $70,000 in donations in just 10 minutes during the “fund an item” segment of the evening. That included a $10,000 gift from the Morris Hospital medical staff and a $5,000 gift from Morris Hospital senior leaders.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better night,” said Hannah Wehrle, development officer at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. “The weather was perfect, and the support was overwhelming. It was amazing that in just 10 minutes, 286 people in the room contributed more than $70,000 in support of the hospital’s future. There was clearly a sense of accomplishment among the guests.”
The night continued with a three-course dinner, followed by dancing and music provided by The Chicago Groove Collective.
While the event was a great opportunity to raise funds for the Flood Recovery and Prevention Fund, it was also the perfect occasion to commemorate the 1968 Auxiliary Ball.
The first Auxiliary Ball co-chair, Bea Conley, was in attendance, along with Karen Hynds, chair of the Auxiliary at the time of the first Ball. Guests paid tribute to the late Elliot Tratt, who served with Conley as co-chair of the first ball.
The 45th annual Morris Hospital Auxiliary Ball committee members included Kathy and Steve Barr, Debbie Bols, Kelly Bols, Barb Boma, Becky DiVincenzo, Mary Jo Enrietta, Jessica Fox, Sheila Funk, Dana Grunwald, Heidi Lawton, Tyla Ledvina, Karen McCluckie, Mary Olson, Lori Ortinau, Judie Roth, Debbie Scuteri-Svab, Cheryl Tesdal, Tory Tesdal, Julie Wilkinson and Tracy Zabel.
The Morris Hospital Foundation continues to accept donations to the Flood Recovery and Prevention Fund.
